Unitex – Overview of Betanjunk Chemical Industrial Park, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia
1. Market Demand
Indonesia, as the third most populous country in the world, relies heavily on agriculture as a key economic pillar but has long depended on imported fertilizers. In October 2024 alone, 83,596 metric tons of NPK fertilizers were imported. Although domestic production has increased, imported fertilizers still account for more than 13% of total demand, highlighting the importance of localized production.
2. Location Advantages
The Betanjunk Chemical Industrial Park is located in Central Kalimantan, adjacent to the Balito River and Betanjung Port. Combined with local resources, it possesses unique advantages to become a coal-based fertilizer manufacturing hub.
- 2.1 Coal Resources: Central Kalimantan holds the largest coal reserves in Indonesia, with high calorific value and low sulfur content, suitable for ammonia and urea production.
- 2.2 Agricultural Demand: The region has large plantations and food industry bases, where agricultural output growth drives fertilizer demand.
- 2.3 Excellent Logistics: Proximity to Betanjung Port reduces costs for raw material import and finished product export, offering convenient logistics.
3. Government Support
- 3.1 Land and Infrastructure: The government provides 400 hectares of land and quickly completes approvals as well as electricity and water connections.
- 3.2 Operational Incentives: Priority access to the port and ten-year corporate income tax exemption for resident companies.
- 3.3 Resource Security: Long-term coal supply agreements ensure stable access to high-calorific coal.
- 3.4 Regulatory Convenience: Assistance in fast completion of permits and environmental assessments to support project development.
